  • History

    • Trigonolito is a representation of the Taino deity Yucahu, also known as Yucáhuguama Bagua Maórocoti, Yukajú, Yocajú, or Yukiyú. He is the son and male counterpart to our mother, Atabey. Although some more modern Tainos may think of Yukahu as an all mighty God, the Tainos do not beleive anything to be above nature. Yukahu is not supernatural but a part of nature. According to oral tradition, in the beginning there was only Atabey. Our supreme mother created the heavens but there was still a void, where nothingness prevailed. There was little to no movement in the heavcens, Earth and all celestial bodies were void of life and empty. Despite being dominated by darkness. Eventually she decided to create two new deities, Yucáhu and Guacar, from magic and intangible elements. She then left hers sons in charge of creation. Yucáhu took over as a creation deity, becoming a universal architect. He then contemplated and awoke the Earth from its slumber. As part of this process, two new deities emerged from a cave. Boinael and Maroya, controlling the sun and moon respectively. Yucáhu was satisfied with his work, but Guacar hid within the heavens, never to be seen again because of jealousy. Yucáhu becomes bored but noticed four gemstones that were lying on the ground, which he converted into the celestial star beings. These start beings reproduced and spread throughout the universe, where they guide the deities. Then he created animals, granting them dwellings and teaching them how to live. Yucáhu then felt he needed to create something else, something that was neither animal nor deity, After contemplating this for a long time Yucáhu created man by opening a rift in the heavens from which the first man emerged. Yucaho then named the first man Locuo and gave him a soul. After Yukahu was satisfied with his creation, he left the world in the hands of humanity, feeling that balance had been reached.
